O projeto insere-se no contexto do Concurso de conceção de requalificação do Mercado de Ermesinde e zona envolvente, destinado a promover uma reflexão acerca da utilização do mesmo, considerando um conceito alargado ao espaço que lhe está subjacente e incentivando, a participação e a discussão pública, de modo a que posteriormente fosse definido um Programa Preliminar consistente, que sirva de base para a Requalificação do Mercado de Ermesinde. Assim, a proposta apresentada procura promover a adaptação dos espaços existentes aos novos princípios socioculturais e aos novos usos que aqui se poderão introduzir, respeitando primeiramente as necessidades dos feirantes e dos restantes utilizadores. Procurou-se também integrar o Mercado na cidade, através da requalificação de toda a área envolvente através da projeção de um parque dinâmico que busca reinterpretar o conceito de “praça/jardim” usando como oportunidade a estrutura já existente. Propôs-se desta forma que esta zona publica se integrasse como um ponto de referência do meio em que se insere, melhorando para isso as condições de acessibilidade e permeabilidade, garantindo desta forma uma melhoria da qualidade espacial de toda a área do Mercado e da sua envolvente. The project is part of the context of the Design Competition for the requalification of the Ermesinde Market and surrounding area, aimed at promoting reflection on its use, considering a concept extended to the space that underlies it and encouraging participation and discussion public, so that a consistent Preliminary Program could later be defined, which would serve as a basis for the Requalification of the Ermesinde Market.

Therefore, the proposal presented seeks to promote the adaptation of existing spaces to new socio-cultural principles and new uses that could be introduced here, firstly respecting the needs of stallholders and other users. An attempt was also made to integrate the Market into the city, through the requalification of the entire surrounding area through the projection of a dynamic park that seeks to reinterpret the concept of “square/garden” using the existing structure as an opportunity.

It was therefore proposed that this public area be integrated as a point of reference for the environment in which it is located, improving the conditions of accessibility and permeability, thus guaranteeing an improvement in the spatial quality of the entire Market area and its engaging.
